PANTHUR has released a new range of servers to accomodate the needs of customers using the latest and most up to date versions of software being released by 3rd party vendors.
While PANTHUR will continue to operate the 5.2.X version on our servers, we have introduced new servers utilizing PHP 5.3 which users can now upgrade to.
Some of the new features in the 5.3 language are as follows: Native support for MySQL drivers (results in faster execution times)
phar (PHP Archive) which allows all PHP to run from a single file much like files are contained in a ZIP or TAR extension. The ability to run them from an archive means that an entire script can run from a single file rather than hundreds or thousands of small files. This might be a drain on resources as the archive would need to be unpacked to run, but the possibilities are endless with this new feature.
Lambdas and Closures – allows a programmer to define a variable at any point in the code rather than only at the top.
Traits are now included and a number of other performance enhancements.
Existing members can request a migration to one of our PHP 5.3 servers by submitting a ticket here: http://www.panthur.com.au/members/submitticket.php
